Kyiv | Katja

I don’t know how to lie with my camera.

Each person or place that is in front of my lens, I have to love the subject, have to love what is in the frame, be moved by something, else why press the shutter? When I visit a place, a city, village or favela, I tend to fall in love with the place and it shows up in my contact sheets. Conversely, I have photographed people that I was not necessarily enamored by and it shows up in the photos.

The greatest compliment I can get is when people view a photo of someone and they ask, do you have a crush on this person? Because it is true, for these brief moments, I do fall in love with whomever is in front of my lens. Men, women, streets and cafes, it does not matter.

So when I met Katja, we instantly vibed and jibed and immediately fell into laughing fits, smoking and joking and having a singular time.

For a lovely brief afternoon, I fell deeply in love with Katja. And I think it shows.
